Happy birthday to one of our sheroes, Shirley Chisholm. Although she was born in Brooklyn, she was a daughter of a father from Guiana and a mother from Barbados. In recognition of her heritage, Bryant composed a menu (Celebration: Chisholm) in The Inspired Vegan that draws on the diverse flavors and staples of Caribbean cuisine. The menu is not only dedicated to Shirley Chisholm for bravely struggling for equality and justice, but to any leaders who defend the rights of the poor, people of color, and women.
